In October, we gathered in the Finnish countryside to spend a whole weekend dedicated to knitting. It was time for the first ever Laine Weekend. So there we were, 18 wool lovers from Finland and beyond enjoying the quietness of the tick forest and fall-kissed, fresh air. I can still hear those cheerful conversations and heartful laughs, taste the amazing, homemade food and drinks we enjoyed during those three days and feel the heat of the sauna on my skin. Some brave ones even got into the icy cold lake just down the hill.
On Saturday, we got together in our cozy living room with a gorgeous, big rug hanging on the wall to learn about knitwear photography. Our editor in chief, Jonna Hietala, a photographer herself, inspired us all to take that extra step and make our photos reflect the beauty of our knitting projects. Needless to say, Saturday afternoon was spent taking pics, editing them and eating Finnish cinnamon rolls in between.
We knitted a lot during the weekend; smaller and bigger projects, colourful as well as those that cherished grays in every shade imaginable. For all those who didn’t have enough yarn with them (let’s be honest, there isn’t such a thing as too much yarn), Liinu from Kässäkerho Pompom in Eastern Finland brought some of her hand-dyed yarns and other goodies, such as Beiroa from Retrosaria Rosa Pomar in Lisbon, for all of us to fall in love with. On Saturday, Eine from Salo-Angora spinnery made our hearts skip a beat, as she stopped by with a bunch of yarn spun just a couple of kilometres from where our cottage was located.
All in all, it was a wonderful weekend spent with like-minded souls. Wool, knitting, friends – a powerful way to let your mind find peace.
We want to shout out a big thank you to our incredible parters and sponsors without whom this weekend wouldn’t have been as special as it was. Thank you to our goodie bag sponsors: Lankakauppa Titityy and Tukuwool for yarn, Lankakauppa Kerä for the handy notebook and cute stitchmarker and to NORD-T for their amazing, all-natural, all-Nordic tea. Thank you to Laitilan Wirvoitusjuomatehdas for the carefully selected and matched beers. And thank you to La Piazza Barbera for all the red wine love.
